This manual consists of notes on some of the interventional procedures most commonly performed in the Interventional Radiology operating room. The intended goal has been to set aside the more clinical aspects in order to focus on the technical and practical side of this specialty.
This text is conceived as a handbook —a pocket-sized guide for nurses, students, and residents approaching interventional radiology for the first time. Each chapter compiles the basic and essential knowledge, much like a cookbook, enabling readers to face the procedure with confidence.
Continuing with the culinary analogy, the book includes our own particular “recipes,” which are neither the only nor necessarily the most orthodox rules of the procedure. It is a “how I do it”—an account of our own way of doing things—acknowledging that there are many other ways to do it equally well.
Moreover, this manual is recommended by several Interventional Radiology societies as a useful reference for preparing the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) examination organized by CIRSE.
